Why Is Memory Foam So Expensive? – Trust Sleep

Why Is Memory Foam So Expensive? What You Need To KnowOverviewYou have been looking around online for a new memory foam mattress, but you keep running into one hurdle: they are all so expensive. Why is this? Why is memory foam so expensive? This is what we are going to take a look at today to answer this questions once and for all.Let’s get started. There Is No Used MarketThis may not be a groundbreaking revelation, but people really do not like the idea of sleeping on a used mattress. Much like buying used undergarments or socks, this idea just kind of skeeves people out.Because of this, there isn’t a real demand for used mattresses – this means that people have to buy new mattresses whenever they are in the market. This need for new mattresses (and lack of a used market) drives prices up.Memory Foam Lasts For A Long TimeLooking at a $1000+ memory foam mattress may seem costly in the short term, but premium memory foam mattresses tend to last for a long time.In this case, a long time can be ten years or more before they start sagging or need to be replaced. Some memory foam mattresses may even last twenty years if they are taken care of. If you look at the actual per day cost for a high-quality memory foam mattress, it really isn’t that expensive. For example, if a memory mattress lasts ten years and costs you $1000, it only costs you 27 cents per night to sleep on. Not that bad when you really think about it.Quality Control Is HighMemory foam mattresses, at least the more expensive ones made in the US, have high-quality control standards, which translates into a more expensive product. However, this is actually a good thing because it means there is strict regulation when it comes to what can actually be put in a memory foam mattress. This means that they lack nasty chemicals and have less off-gassing, but it also means that it is more costly to produce these high-end materials. It can be tempting to turn to lower cost foreign memory foam producers, but in many cases, it is difficult to know if they have cut corners or are using materials that are worse for you.High-End Memory Foam Is DurableAs compared to the low end, knock-off versions, high-end memory foam is much more durable. This means that in addition to lasting longer, they retain their form for a much longer duration. If you have ever slept on a memory foam mattress you have experienced the “sink” sensation – eventually, all memory foam mattresses start to lose their form and start to sink. However, the crucial difference here is that a high-end memory foam mattress will start to sink after ten years or so. A low-quality memory foam mattress might start to sink within a few years. This is part of the reason why quality memory foam is expensive.A Mattress Is A NecessityMost people don’t really think about their mattress until it is time to replace it, and a quality mattress is absolutely a necessity for…

Why Are Foam Mattresses So Expensive?

Why Are Foam Mattresses So Expensive? | Budget Friendly FurnishingFoam mattresses can look expensive when compared to other mattresses. It can be easy to not even consider them an option if you’re in the market for a new mattress due to the price. So why are foam mattresses so expensive?Foam mattresses are so expensive because of the density of the material, quality control requirements, and production costs. Foam mattresses are considered high quality mattresses, and therefore can be a bit pricier. There is a lot to know before buying a foam mattress. I’ll show you the benefits of getting a foam mattress and the qualities to look out for to make sure you get the best foam mattress for you.Why Do Foam Mattresses Cost So Much? The quality control on foam mattresses pushes the prices up. It is not easy to get the foam to be the correct firmness for maximum comfort. Manufacturers also find that testing a traditional innerspring-style mattress is easier than a foam mattress.Mattresses in general are expensive. One factor is that due to the limited lifespan of mattresses they cannot be sold easily. Apart from the fact no one wants to buy a used mattress for hygiene reasons, old mattresses do not offer the support that new ones do which means back pain and is, therefore, not an option for many.Foam mattresses can last longer than conventional mattresses. Their construction and already mentioned quality control means their longer life span raises demand for the product, pushing up the price. Finally, the perception is that memory foam is a luxury product. A luxury item means firms charge higher numbers and markup for these types of beds. By skipping the memory foam you could save money. A mattress topper is a good substitute and can keep your sleep just as comfortable. What are Foam Mattresses Made With?Foam is everywhere around us but it is slightly different depending on what it is used for. Foam mattresses generally use polyol mixed with other substances including water. A chemical reaction causes the material to expand and can then be formed into almost any shape.Depending on the style the foam mattress may have a different thickness. If it will be your primary sleeping surface, you want to make sure it is at least 8 inches thick. It may also be a combination of regular foam as a base with a top layer of memory foam, with different dimensions for both.Is a More Expensive Mattress Worth it?Price is not the full story when considering mattresses. Of course, more expensive mattresses may reflect that they have higher quality, more expensive materials. It can also be a reflection of quality control which means a high likelihood of even body support and good design. However, any mattress can be expensive without having all the good qualities listed above. Signs of a high-quality mattress can be a thick and dense mattress with high amounts of springiness for innerspring mattresses and slow, molding changing in the case of memory foam. You spend one-third of your life sleeping and that should…

Why Are Mattresses So Expensive Newlywed couples often venture out to purchase mattresses that are comforting and supportive. As a prudent buyer, you need to consider various factors while shopping for the perfect mattress. There will be occasions when after seeing the hefty price tag of the mattress, you will end up asking, “why are mattresses so expensive?” You must be wondering how much does a mattress cost. Well, there is nothing like an ideal price of a mattress. The price depends upon the type and size of the mattress and the level of support and comfort it offers.Read to know the reasons responsible for the high price of mattresses and some useful tips to save money while buying them.  10 Reasons Why Are Mattresses So Expensive In addition to the type and quality of the mattresses, buyers need to consider other specific factors while answering the question, “how much does a good mattress cost.” The most important of these factors include the following. 1. Impact On HealthA good mattress plays an important role in enhancing the health and well-being of an individual. In addition to improving sleep quality, a good mattress also helps reduce support and ensure greater relaxation for the users. A high-quality mattress offers greater comfort and support to the users while they sleep and even while they perform other activities. These may include playing with children and pets, spending time with their partners, or simply lying down to read or relax. The greater the health benefits of a mattress, the more expensive it is likely to be.2. An Increase In DemandWhile there are several different types of mattresses available in the market today, their demands vary from time to time and between regions. Therefore, a sudden upsurge in demand for a specific kind of mattress in a particular region may cause its price to spike. The surge in demand may be due to various reasons, including the growing popularity of a specific type of mattress or even a supply deficit from the manufacturers.  3. Cost Of MaterialsThe cost of materials used to make the different mattresses also impacts their price. The mattresses made from expensive materials naturally come with a higher price tag. In addition, the mattresses are often made from a combination of different types of materials to enhance their durability and comfort. This contributes to enhancing the price of the mattress even further. Sadly, a higher price tag may not always assure the quality and durability of a mattress. 4. Delivery And ShippingMost buyers never consider how much does it costs to ship a mattress, irrespective of whether they purchase it from an online store or a retail shop. The cost of transporting and delivering the mattresses is often included in the overall price of the mattress. The transportation and delivery charges further depend on the distance between the manufacturing unit and the store, the packaging and shipping needs, fuel costs, etc. Any variation in these parameters often increases the mattress price.5. Commission On SaleMost manufacturers offer a decent commission to the retailers on every mattress sale. This commission is included in the overall manufacturing cost of the mattress and hence impacts the price directly. The commission percentage may also depend on the base price of the mattress. Thus, a mattress having a higher base price may become more expensive due to the higher percentage of commission promised.  6. Use Of TechnologyModern-day mattresses are designed using a wide range of technological innovations for enhanced comfort. Some of the technologies used include sleep sensors, heating technology, and pressure-relieving technology. Mattresses with these technologies help improve the users’ sleep quality, making them more relaxing and healthier—the type of technology used impacts the price of the mattress quite significantly. 7. Brand ValueMost customers today consider the brand value of the manufacturers before investing in a mattress. This makes mattress manufacturers invest considerable time and effort in establishing a unique brand identity for their products. The funds required for such activities are calculated as a part of the mattress price, contributing to enhancing the cost. That is why the mattresses from most renowned brands are often…

Why Is Memory Foam So Expensive? (Top 10 Reasons)

Why Is Memory Foam So Expensive? (Top 10 Reasons) Memory foam mattresses are known for being comfortable and high in quality. Unfortunately, these mattresses are also recognized for their high pricing. If you are looking for a memory foam mattress, you have probably noticed that the pricing is higher than a traditional mattress. Many will find that the high prices of these mattresses are worth it for the benefits that they offer. If you are curious why the memory foam mattress tends to cost a bit more, we have all the reasons that can help you sort this out. 1. Quality Control The quality control on the memory foam mattresses is part of what makes the pricing so high. It is not easy to get the foam to be the correct firmness for those who are using it. It’s also important to make sure that the mattress is going to continually conform to a person’s body each and every time it is used. For proper quality control, it takes time, effort, and money. Therefore, quality control increases the price that people must pay for a new foam mattress. It is a bit easier to test and manufacturer a traditional mattress than a memory foam mattress. Of course, for the end user, higher quality control means a better product, but it is important to keep this in mind when considering the high cost of such a mattress. 2. Very Small Market for Used Mattresses People do not like to purchase used mattresses. Memory foam mattresses that have been used for years by another person are not all that appealing for a person who is looking for a clean and new place to sleep. One of the reasons the price of memory foam is so high is that the used market is quite small. You are not going to find a mattress with memory foam for a lower price than new. Manufacturers know that, if you want a mattress, you understand that it is going to be expensive, and they are able to charge a good price for what they have. If you want the memory foam technology, be prepared to spend quite a bit on a new option. The best way to get a deal on a memory foam mattress is to purchase from some of these online companies that are going to ship the mattress to you in a box. You will have to be careful which company you go with as some of these newer brands are not known for longevity. 3. Long-Lasting A memory foam mattress is intended to last a long time. People don’t want to purchase a mattress every few years, and we certainly can’t blame them. With the high prices of mattresses, most expect to get seven to ten years out of the product. This means that the memory foam mattresses need to be built to last. The longer you have the mattress, the better the deal you get for it. Memory foam needs to be tested over long periods of time to make sure that it will hold up even five years after a person has purchased it. The longer-lasting, better material is expensive to work with and develop, but you will be glad it is what your mattress is made from. 4. Top Brand Names As with most products, there are brand names and knock-off brands. The top brand names like Sealy or Serta are going to charge more money for their mattress. Some of what you are paying for is a higher-end product, but there is also the fact that these companies are known for being high-end. The higher-end brand names also tend to do quite a bit of marketing. The marketing costs end up leading to higher overhead, and eventually, the consumer is left paying more for their new mattress. The brand names tend to have better customer service and warranties as well. This is important to look for when purchasing a memory foam mattress. Many times, when the mattress starts to fall apart, the warranty can kick in and help save you some money. This is especially important if your mattress is less than a…

Why are mattresses so expensive? – Mic

Why are mattresses so expensive?I’m not a mattress snob — far from it, actually. My partner and I make do with a $300 Ikea mattress he bought a few years ago, padded with an egg crate foam topper. Meanwhile, I’ve heard of people dropping $1,000 or more on mattresses, all for a good night’s sleep. I’m skeptical, though. Why are mattresses so expensive, especially the high-quality ones? And do they really help you sleep better?According to one mattress brand I reached out to, the cost of a mattress largely reflects the processes and materials used to make it. That said, an orthopedist told me that a high-end mattress may promote better sleep, but not for everyone.Cheap mattresses — those you can buy for a few hundred dollars — are often made of inexpensive materials that don’t feel as comfortable or last as long as those used in expensive mattresses, according to Ron Rudzin, CEO of luxury sleep brand Saatva. They have a lifespan of roughly 5 to 7 years, whereas high-end mattresses can last 10 to 15 years. Saatva’s mattresses are made with expensive materials and processes, but as an online-only retailer sans brick-and-mortar expenses, it can afford to sell them at a lower rate: Its mattresses start at $599.Most mattresses contain steel coils, made by winding steel wire around a mold. The shape of the coil can be solidified in two ways. Electric shocking is a quick, inexpensive method that produces more rigid coils. “You’ll never see an electric shock coil unit in a mattress that costs over $1,000,” Rudzin tells me. In higher-quality mattresses, the coils are oven-baked, a slower process that makes them more flexible and durable.A mattress’s price can also reflect the density of the polyurethane foam used in it, Rudzin says. Higher-quality mattresses are made with denser foams, which provide more support and last longer. Mattress brands use foam density ratings to indicate the weight per cubic foot of foam. Think about it — more density would ideally create a moree supportive base for you to slee on. A density rating of 2.0 means the foam weighs 2.0 pounds per cubic foot. Cheap mattresses often have a density rating of about 1.3, Rudzin says, while those with ratings of 1.5 to 1.8 tend to be of higher quality.Memory foam is even denser, making mattresses built with it more expensive. Saatva’s memory foam-containing Loom & Leaf mattress starts at $849, while mattresses from Tempur-Pedic, which have an even denser memory foam, according to Rudzin, start at $1,999.The fabric covering the mattress can also affect the price. Cheap mattresses tend to use polyester and other synthetic fabrics, which generally aren’t breathable, and feel and warm and sticky, according to Rudzin. On the other hand, higher-end brands, such as Duxiana, may use soft, luxuriant fabrics like cashmere. Saatva uses an organic cotton, which is breathable and keeps the bed nice and cool. Most budget mattresses are also coated with spray-on flame retardant while more expensive ones sometimes use a flame retardant barrier that consists largely of a natural material — wood pulp, with a bit of polyester as a bonding agent.Although the price of a mattress mostly stems from material costs, brick and mortar costs, such as rent and payroll for showroom staff, can also factor into the price, Rudzin says. Again, that’s why Saatva can sell mattresses cheaper than, say, Tempur-Pedic, even if it’s also a high-end brand.PhotoAlto/Frederic Cirou/PhotoAlto Agency RF Collections/Getty ImagesBut is an expensive mattress worth it? Will it translate to greater comfort and a more restful sleep? The short answer: Not necessarily. A 2015 Sleep Health review of 24 previously-published controlled human trials found that a medium-firm mattress is ideal for promoting sleep quality, reducing pain, and improving spinal alignment…

Cheap vs Expensive Mattresses – Sleepopolis

Cheap vs Expensive Mattresses | SleepopolisWhen searching for a new mattress, you may notice there can be a huge disparity in cost between different mattresses. Some mattresses require an investment of thousands of dollars, while others request just a few hundred bucks for the product. So what’s the difference between these cheap and expensive mattresses, and how do you know which to choose? I’m here to break down the differences between these products and answer your questions about cheap vs expensive mattresses. What Price Qualifies a Mattress to be “Cheap” or “Expensive”The terms “cheap” and “expensive” can be subjective, so what qualifies as cheap and expensive when it comes to mattresses? In the sleep world, a mattress is typically considered cheap if it is less than $1,000 for a queen size. We consider a mattress to be expensive if the queen size is more than $2,000. An averaged priced mattress would be somewhere in between. There are a variety of factors that go into determining the price point of a mattress. The quality of the materials, durability, and comfort are just a few mattress qualities that will determine its price. MaterialsThe quality and price of the materials will typically influence the price of the mattress. Many mattresses contain foam, for example, but the specific type used will affect how much it costs. Memory foam and latex foam are high-quality materials and will therefore increase the price of the mattress. Alternate foams, like poly foam, are a bit lower quality and can usually be found in cheaper mattresses. These cheaper mattresses can also have lower grade coils if they’re hybrid or innerspring beds. The expensive mattresses can sometimes be so pricey because of the extra perks they have. Mattresses made with hypoallergenic and/or organic materials will cost more. Added cooling features will also drive up the price. Some mattresses will come with uber-advanced technology, such as the Ghost SmartBed 3D Matrix Mattress, which comes with its own wifi box and mobile app that changes its feel with the touch of a button. This type of technology wouldn’t be found in a cheap mattress.A look at the construction of the Nolah Natural mattress, which is an eco-friendly bed made with organic materials.Check out some of our picks for the best mattresses in each materials category:Memory foamInnerspringHybridOrganicCoolingTrial/Warranty PeriodsAnother big difference between cheap and expensive mattresses can be the trial and warranty periods the company offers. The standard for cheap mattresses is a 100-night sleep trial and a 10-year warranty. For expensive mattresses, you’ll typically see a 365-night sleep trial and a lifetime warranty. Companies providing long sleep trials and lifetime warranties shows they have confidence you’ll love their product and it will last you a long time. That being said, we’ve tested and reviewed some great mattresses, like the Nectar or Bear, that are still affordably priced despite having longer trials and/or warranties.Remember, it takes about 30 days to get used to a new mattress, so take advantage of those trial periods! Most sellers should have these details listed on their website, so be sure to look for them. See our buying guide…

Why Are Mattresses So Expensive? – Terry Cralle

Why Are Mattresses So Expensive? – Terry CralleSleeping properly is an important part of our life and it can have an incredibly high impact on our day. From restoring our energy to improving our mood throughout the day, sleeping on a good mattress is essential. However, good mattresses are not cheap. But why are mattresses so expensive? Modern mattresses are made with high-quality materials, have the latest technology integrated with them, and are sometimes more expensive to transport. In this article, you will find all the answers to your questions related to mattresses and their costs. In fact, there are several more factors that affect the overall cost of the mattress. How Much Should A Good Mattress Cost? One of the most common questions when choosing a mattress is to know how much a good one costs. There are various mattresses available on the market, from budget to premium ones. In fact, a cheap mattress will cost you as low as $200 (Mostly you can only buy a mattress topper ). On the other hand, a premium mattress with advanced technology will set you back as much as $5000 or more (like Tempur Pedic). In short, as a general rule of thumb, a good mattress will cost you around $1000. It is common for all furniture that the price is the measure of the quality you receive. However, for large-size products such as mattresses, and other than the quality, there are more factors that come into the reason why mattresses are so expensive. Some of them are the cost of the materials from which mattresses are composed of. For instance, delivery and shipping, commission, profit margin of retailers, and the advanced technology used to manufacture the mattresses. Let go through all the reasons why mattresses are so expensive. 1. Mattresses Can Benefit Your Health One of the reasons why mattresses are so expensive is simply because they can have an incredibly beneficial impact on your health and daily life. Moreover, according to research by the National Institutes of Health, mattresses can improve sleep quality, reduce back discomfort, and even decrease stress. In fact, stress may be related to sleep issues, and, needless to say, getting a high-quality mattress will help to have a better life. So, why are mattresses so expensive? These were the main reasons why people sometimes need to spend big money on them. 2. Duration First things first, the duration of a mattress is an important factor that impacts the price. In fact, a good mattress will last you between 7 and 10 years. Sure, while the cost of a premium mattress can be quite high, it’s important to consider its overall life span. 3. The Demand For Mattresses Is High The demand for mattresses and beds will never decrease simply because everyone needs one. On average, a person spends around a third of his life on his bed and that’s certainly a reason to make them so expensive. It’s important to note that the vast majority of people will only buy new mattresses and not used, and, therefore, the demand continuously grows. Furthermore, due to the fact that everyone needs a mattress, profit margins are obviously higher and this takes us to the following point. 4. Profit Margins The profit margins are another factor to consider when talking about the cost of a mattress. According to…

However, does price mean quality? Do you have to spend a lot of money in order to get a good mattress? Why Are Mattresses so Expensive? [2021] – Dont Disappoint Me

Why Are Mattresses so Expensive? [2021] Let’s face it—how long or well you’ve slept can make or break your day. A good, deep snooze is essential to your wellbeing. Nothing’s better than waking up thoroughly rested and restored, ready to take on the day’s challenges. Can you really put a price on that? Well, mattress companies certainly have, and often it’s a steep one. If you’re in the market for a new mattress and you’ve been shopping around, you’ve probably already asked yourself, “why are mattresses so expensive, and are they truly worth the price tag? What constitutes a ‘good’ mattress, anyway? Should I go for springs or foam? An airbed or latex? Of all the options available out there, which is the right one for me?” Fret not—through this guide, we’ll put all these matters to bed. We’ll answer all your burning questions about why mattresses are so pricey, which factors affect their overall cost, and how you can find a good deal on one. Let’s dive in! How much should I spend on a mattress? When it comes to quality mattresses, no one price tag fits all. A mattress’s price-point depends on multiple factors, such as the materials used and the mattress type, size or height. Higher-priced beds might last much longer than cheaper ones, too.  Since there’s such a variety of mattress prices, it’s helpful to break them down by category. The average mattress prices in the UK by category are as follows: Budget mattress: affordable, usually all-foam or pocket spring construction, made of basic materials, £150-£600 price range Mid-range mattress: typically all-foam, hybrid or pocket spring construction, made of quality materials, £500-£1,000 price range Luxury mattress: mostly hybrid or latex construction, made of high-end materials, £1,000-£2,000+ price range Perhaps the most essential mattress price factor is the materials that have gone into making it. Pocket spring mattress Pocket spring mattresses use coils as their main support. They’re a traditional type of cheap mattress with pocketed springs that uses basic materials, like fibre or foam. There are even pocket spring beds that have two layers of coils instead of one. These beds are best for heavier people, as the coils create a firmer core that won’t sink in. A pocket spring mattress also works for someone who likes to sleep on a firmer bed. Even though these are the most affordable mattresses on the market, many sleepers will find them uncomfortable. Pocket spring mattresses come with price tags in the range of £200-£800+. Memory foam mattress Memory foam mattresses are primarily popular among customers with aches and pains or people who like sleeping on a body-hugging mattress. Why are memory foam mattresses so expensive? Well, a memory foam mattress’s price depends on the density and construction of the materials. Higher-density foam raises a mattress’s price. However, some people find higher-density mattresses to be too firm and uncomfortable to sleep on. Lower-density foam mattresses cost less but require more frequent replacement. You might find a mid-range product that combines both higher- and lower-density materials for a blend of comfort and durability. The extra features that enhance all-foam mattresses like edge support, temperature-regulating gels and phase-changing technology will raise a bed’s cost. The tradeoff is that consumers are promised a more comfortable and personalized sleep experience.  Memory foam mattresses come in a price range of £200-£1,000+. According to customer reviews, the best ones on the market are the Dormeo Memory Plus Mattress, Eve Mattress, Emma Mattress and Tempur Mattress. Latex mattress Latex mattresses use high-end supporting materials that can relieve pressure. There are two types of latex mattresses: Dunlop and Talalay, and each has its own price.  Dunlop latex…
